08 Jan How to Reach More Customers
It’s 2018 and the Christmas Holidays are definitely over. You’ve probably made a few personal New Year’s Resolutions to drink less, exercise more and generally try to be a better version of yourself for 2018. But what about a New Year’s resolution for your business? What would you like to change about your business this year?
Small businesses are so diverse, but the answer to that question for so many people is the same: “I want to increase sales and make more money”. Sounds simple – but where do you start?
Businesses exist because there is a demand for the products or services they provide. The best place to start is to make sure that your potential customers know about you, and for you to reach as many of those potential customers as you can. Competition can be fierce and you need to get out there and stand out! Here are a few simple steps to get you started:
If you need to reach more customers there are so many ways to do this. Firstly, you need to have a business website! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t jump straight to a Google search when they need a product or service. If you don’t have a website then you’re invisible to the majority of your potential customers.
Having any old website is not enough. That website needs to be mobile-friendly (so your customers can view it on any device) and it needs to have content that is optimised for search engines. SEO (search engine optimisation) is imperative if you want to be found online.
Have you ever purchased from a business website which took 5 minutes for one page to load, or which took you 20 minutes to find the thing you were looking for? No – neither have I. Make sure you have adequate hosting so your website is fast enough, and make sure that your website is user-friendly and easy to use. If your website doesn’t give your customer what they need quickly and easily, they will find one of your competitors who does.
As well as your business website, you should also be visible across social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. Create business pages and share useful, relevant content to improve your brand awareness. Remember – don’t use social media to post sales posts only – it’s called social media for a very good reason!
Talk to People!
Another way of reaching new customers is to join local networking groups such as The Mussel Club. Get out there and talk to people! Meet up with other local business owners regularly to share ideas and create reciprocal business. Referrals and word of mouth can be very powerful sales tools.
